Life can be very adventurous

Posted by admin On August - 17 - 2008

This Sunday I got up early at 5:00am because I wanted to be able to catch whatever bus in the morning to explore Vancouver Island. But I was not sure weather to go to Tofino or to Cambell River. I thought it would be a good idea to ask at the hostel desk for advice. So I asked the guy what he would recommend and if he could call the hostels over there for a reservation for a few nights. But surprisingly the guy was very very unfriendly!!! He said everything is booked out elsewhere and he even ask me if I consider to go back to Vancouver. The island would be nothing for me he explained. Indians looking like you and me and nobody goes for whales. Canadians leave their whales by themselves. OK… weird. I was really upset. This Victoria hostel seems to be one of the worst of my whole travels so far. I didn’t know what to do. So I took my heavy backpack and went down to the bus terminal. I bought a ticket and the girl behind the desk said that the bus will leave at 7:00am. “Oh good, that’s in 10min.” I thought. Two minutes after 7:00am I went back to her and ask again. She said the bus already left. I was shocked: “What the hell are you doing here. Its your job to call the people when the bus leaves!!!” I answered. “You just reading your yellow press magazine. And that’s not what you are paid for!” She only said:” Whatever, the next bus leaves at 8:00am.” So here I am at 7:00am in the morning on my way back to Vancouver…. But I needed to talk to someone…so I started to talk to another bus person of Greyhound. He told me that she is very bad and many people complain. And he offered me to show the beautiful island because so far I wasn’t very impressed and i thought Vancouver Island is just overrated. I said I would like to see more but I will never go back to that hostel and everything else is booked out. So the guy Scott said I could pick him up at 1:00pm. He is for one week of because of holidays. So I thought why not, I didn’t see so much of the island so far. Until 1:00pm I visited the Royal British Columbia Museum (RBCM). They have a quite good native Indian collection over there.

Sunset trip around Don Det

Posted by admin On March - 4 - 2007

After having breakfast somewhere Jenny and me got stomach pain and had to run on the toilet. I took some pills and a little bit rice wine and it got better. At noon I was swimming back to the fullmoon party place and in the late afternoon we did a sunset trip for 20000kip. Was alright but not worth it. Read the rest of this entry »

Dolphins and “Fullmoon party”

Posted by admin On March - 3 - 2007

Today Jenny and me changed early in the morning the accommodation for a cheaper and better one. Then we caught up with the German Arno and the two other Finn guys for doing a little bike tour around the islands to the waterfall and a beach on Don Khong. From the beach we did a tour to watch the rare Hirrawadie dolphins. And we saw some but unfortunately far away. In the evening we all went for 50000kip to a sort of fullmoon party with food. Was a big rip off. Food didn’t taste good. In the end the lady who organized the party had a loud argument with a Laos guy. Read the rest of this entry »

Maya beach

Posted by admin On February - 9 - 2007

At 7:00am in the morning I met at the dive shop for my first dives since leaving Australia. I was really excited and hoped to see heaps of good stuff down there And right I saw a lot, for example a leopard shark, black tip reef sharks, a turtle, a blue spotted stingray, a cuttlefish and a school of squid. Around 2:00pm I was back and together with Jacob I took a water taxi to see Maya beach, the main location of the movie “The beach” with Leonardo Di Caprio. The beach was beautiful and the water so clear, I decided to snorkel. After snorkeling for a while on a certain point in the water I felt stitches like from a needle. So I went straight back (The next days I got a rush from that and people told me it could be that I swam directly into jelly fish which were destroyed in little parts by the fisher boats.) Next stop was Monkey beach but in the beginning there was no monkey to see. But I didn’t gave up and the monkeys cam and I got some good shots of them. Read the rest of this entry »

The “Floating Market”

Posted by admin On January - 27 - 2007

Early in the morning was the pick-up for the trip to the floating market. Its the oldest and the original one. I hoped to get there lots of photo opportunities. But what a disaster! I started feeling cheated by the travel agency lady. We had only 40min time at the market, what is definitely not enough for buying things, bargaining, doing photos and eating. I was upset. After the 40min they bring us to a carving place and a gemstone place nobody wants to see! Promised was a free drop-off at the hotel. But the hotel was on the other side of Bangkok. So the driver absolutely didn’t want to bring us home. It cost us nerves and 40min after finally he had to drive us home. Besides we heard from the others in the bus, who bought the ticket somewhere else, that they only paid 200baht for the half day ticket… Never buy at a governmental tourist information T.A.T.!!! I started becoming really concerned about my 10 days Koh Phagnan with beach front bungalow and free shuttle service. Read the rest of this entry »

…till dawn

Posted by admin On April - 22 - 2006

Tired at 5:00am in the morning I was looking forward to watch the most beautiful sunrise I had ever seen. It was breath taking. Everything was touched of red sunlight.

At 9:00am I should meet Doug (www.whalesanddolphin.co.nz) for a trip with boat to swim with the dolphins. This was my big wish and I thought this day will be the day. Unfortunately I saw not even one dolphin or whale. Just seals and penguins. But Doug invited me for another try. But all in all the trip was wonderful. The boat was as fast as a speedboat and feels like that when it jumped over the waves.
